About Piranha Kitchen Fire Suppression Systems

How the Piranha Kitchen Fire Suppression System Fights Fires

Many commercial kitchen fire suppression systems rely on a wet chemical fire suppressant to knock back flames and cool them to prevent reflash. The Ansul Piranha kitchen fire suppression system does this and more, taking out flames with the unique, water-enhanced PRX liquid fire suppressant and then using water to cool the area and react with the PRX chemical to form a foam blanket that smothers the flames.

The Piranha kitchen fire suppression system is activated by a fusible link detector that activates in response to high heat and triggers a release mechanism that pressurizes the PRX tank and operates gas and power shut-off devices as well as duct dampers, cutting power to the kitchen and preventing smoke and fire from moving through the ducts. The PRX wet chemical extinguishant is then discharged through nozzles specially aimed at appliance surfaces, including grills, fryers and stoves, or arranged to maximize coverage. Once the system is released, the wet chemical stops the flames in seconds and reacts with the grease and water to form a vapor-suppressing blanket which prevents reflash.

Advanced Agent Technology

The PRX liquid fire suppressant was specifically formulated and tested for use with the Piranha and knocks flames back while forming a vapor suppressing foam blanket over the fuel source. Best of all, the PRX is a “water enhanced agent” that actually increases in thickness (and effectiveness) during water discharge.

The Piranha kitchen fire suppression system is compliant with UL 300 and 2092, NFPA 17A, NFPA 96, ASSE and IAPMO.
